Safety Supervision Requirements while at the Aquatic Centre

  • Children 7 years old or younger MUST be accompanied by an adult in the water at a ratio of 1 adult to 3 children.
  • Children 8-9 years old MUST be accompanied by an adult on deck in the pool area at a ratio of 1 adult to 6 children.
  • Children 10-11 years of age are recommended to have an adult remain on-site within close proximity of the Aquatic Centre.
  • Dangerous practices are prohibited. Patrons must not run on the pool deck; do not stand, or jump off the Bulkhead located between the play and therapy pools; dive in shallow water (less than 9ft deep); swim in diving areas; double bounce or crowd diving boards; dunk, push, pull or unnecessarily splash other swimmers.
  • Instructions and emergency procedures from lifeguards must be followed. Swimmers must leave the pool area immediately upon hearing a double or triple whistle blast from a lifeguard.

All Areas of Aquatic Centre

  • Outdoor footwear is NOT permitted on the pool deck. 
  • NO electronic devices such as cameras, cell phones, tablets or laptops are allowed in the pool area. 
  • Food and beverages are NOT permitted in the pool area. Please discard chewing gum in garbage receptacle before entering the pool. 
  • Glass, tempered glass, and/or breakable items are NOT permitted on the pool deck or change rooms. A glass breakage fee of $1000 applies to pool deck breakages, while a $100 fee is charged for change room breakages.
  • Anyone not toilet trained MUST wear water resistant swimwear to prevent contamination of the pool. Cloth or disposable diapers are not accepted. A fouling fee of 200$ applies to the play and therapy pools, while a 400$ fee is charged for a lap pool fouling.  
  • All patrons MUST shower before entering the pool. 
  • Persons with open cuts, sores, bandages, colds, coughs or infected eyes are NOT permitted in the pool. 
  • Proper swim attire is required (form fitting, NO natural fibres). 
  • Spitting, spouting or nose-blowing in the pool is strictly prohibited. 
  • Animals are not allowed in the building or pool area, with the exception of registered service animals or service animals in training. Service animals are allowed on deck, but not in the water. 

A patron will be verbally warned for the first offense; the patron will be asked to leave the pool facility if a second offense occurs.

Change Rooms

  • Children ages 0-5 years old may use the male or female changes rooms with their parent or guardian.
  • The Family/Universal Change Room is available to all ages and is the most accessible of the change rooms. This change room is gender neutral and inclusive.
  • NO nudity in the family/universal change room.
  • NO camera/video enabled electronic devices are allowed in the change rooms or washrooms.

Therapy Pool Safety Standards

Your decision to use the Therapy Pool is your own and by doing so you accept all responsibility for anything that might occur as a result of that use. Take care when entering and exiting the Therapy Pool as stairs are steep and slippery. 

The therapy pool is available to patrons, during nearly all hours of the Aquatic Facility.

  • Children under 7 are NOT permitted. 
  • Children ages 7-11 MUST be accompanied by an adult.
  • Therapy pool capacity is 19 participants.
  • Please shower before entering the Therapy Pool.
  • A time limit of 10 minutes must be observed due to the fatiguing effects of prolonged use of the Therapy Pool.
  • Please ask Aquatic Staff to activate therapeutic jets.
  • Clean swim attire must be worn at all times.
  • Long hair MUST be kept away from pool fittings.
  • Absolutely NO full submersion of head.
  • It is advised that Pregnant women not use the Therapy Pool.
  • Elderly participants, and/or participants with respiratory or cardiopulmonary problems, should consult a medical practician prior to using the Therapy Pool.
  • Do NOT use a Therapy Pool if you are taking any medication that makes you drowsy or affects your circulation. If necessary, check with your doctor.
  • Do NOT use under the influence of alcohol, anticoagulants, antihistamines, vasoconstrictors, vasodilators, stimulants, hypnotics, narcotics, or tranquilizers. 
  • Soaking in warm water can dehydrate you, which could lead to nausea, dizziness, or fainting. Take breaks from the Therapy Pool (take a cool shower or enter the Lap Pool) and drink water before getting back in to reduce overheating.

Diving Board Safety Standards

Your decision to use the Diving Board is your own and by doing so you accept all responsibility for anything that might occur as a result of that use.

  • Only 1 diver on the board at a time.
  • For your own safety, NO diving from the sides of the board
  • Our board is not a spring board, NO bounces are permitted when diving, NO bum drops.
  • Avoid diving/jumping when other swimmers are present below, wait until they have cleared the area.
  • Upon reaching the surface, swim to the side and immediately exit the pool / diving zone.
  • Only patrons confident in their swimming abilities should attempt to use the diving board.
  • Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) and belts are NOT permitted on diving boards.
  • Remove swimming goggles and masks before using the diving board. Jumping while wearing them on can result in injury.
  • We recommend that swimmers using the diving board do NOT attempt twists and flips unless trained by a diving coach.

Inflatable Safety Standards

  • You must be able to swim 25m non-stop to use the inflatable.
  • NO lifejackets, lifebelts, or flotation devices are permitted on the inflatable.
  • NO sharp objects are permitted on the inflatable (buckles, jewelry, hair clips, keys, and eyeglasses must be removed).
  • NO more than 3 people are permitted on the inflatable at a time (must be staggered throughout the course evenly).
  • Swimming in the designated inflatable area is prohibited (including parents).
  • Users are NOT permitted to swim underneath the inflatable.
  • Patrons are NOT advised to use the inflatable if they have a history of neck problems, epilepsy, heart problems, or frequent panic attacks.
  • Patrons are prohibited from the inflatable if they are pregnant, or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Patrons must exit to the nearest side of the pool when they fall from or complete the inflatable.
  • NO bodily contact is permitted on the inflatable.
  • Excessive jumping and horseplay is NOT permitted on the inflatable.
