The Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre Society have made a presentation to the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg and the Town of Bridgewater as part of the process in finalizing the application to the Province of Nova Scotia for funding had to be completed by January 31, 2008. The Provincial applications have been made and Federal funding applications are currently being prepared.
Naturally the Town and Municipality can not make commitments until they receive from us the information we have gathered such as the costs and the business plan and other information. We have just finished receiving the last bit of information required and will be meeting with them this week. The application to the province will require an endorsement from the Municipal units, which explains why a lot must happen in the next 11 days. We will be rolling out information to the public very soon as well.
The complete project provided we can obtain adequate funding from the Federal and Provincial Governments, the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, the Town of Bridgewater and the public would have an estimated cost of $31,000,000 if all the considered components were to be built at once. Those components consisting of 1- Ice Pad with 1,500 seats, a second ice pad with 300 seats, an aquatic centre, a library with the administrative offices included and multi purpose rooms with various uses. The facility will be located on York Street, in Bridgewater towards Michelin. It may be that the facility will have to be constructed in stages which we know makes it a more costly venture and the benefits of the whole facility will be delayed.
Part of the required attachments we would like to send with our applications are letters from individuals and businesses, not just saying that we need such a facility, but what economic and healthy lifestyle benefits we will get from having such a facility in our area. Perhaps you know of small meetings of say 30-50 people that could happen here, small conventions, attraction of cultural or entertainment events, wellnes activities, attraction of people to move and stay here or simply what benefit it can add to the well being of the current citizens of our area, and we certainly would like to emphasize area as this is not a Bridgewater project by itself! We would like to know of other benefits which you can think of as well.
Would you please take the time to send us a letter addressed to Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre Society, P.O. Box 5, Station "M", Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, B4V 2W6. The letter can also be emailed to the Society at
Thank you in advance for your support.
