Robert (Bob) N. Wentzell 's son Mark and his wife Jocelyn have shown an interest in an LCLC-type facility for the area for many years. They along with his mother, Dale, and family have donated $150,000 to the LCLC for naming rights for the Galleria in Bob's memory.

We are so pleased to see this valuable project come to fruition for health & fitness for our community. The LCLC will also be a great asset in attracting professionals to the area.
Like many other families, we have supported past efforts for a facility like this only to watch our children grow up and move on to post-secondary education or careers without having had the opportunity to use such a facility. We thank those who have worked through all the disappointments and continue to work hard at making it become a reality. We are thankful that municipal bodies have agreed to work toward a common goal for the betterment of the region, which will ultimately benefit us all.

A bit about Robert Nichols Wentzell (Bob)

Robert (Bob) Wentzell was a respected but quiet and unassuming man described as both a gentleman and a gentle man. Others have said that he would never ask anybody to do anything that he would not do himself. He was known for his honesty and integrity.

Bob grew up in Halifax where he attended Queen Elizabeth High School. He was an excellent athlete, playing hockey, football, baseball and basketball. Bob continued his education at Acadia in engineering and played varsity hockey and football, winning Letters with Distinction in both sports. He then moved on to the Nova Scotia Technical College (now DalTech) where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1958.

Bob married Dale Garrison (also a competitive athlete) and they raised four sons. The family lived in various towns and villages throughout Nova Scotia always working in the community as volunteers. Every move presented unique challenges, but becoming involved in sports programs, etc., in each community made the transition much easier.

Bob and Dale always encouraged participation in sports such as hockey, basketball and volleyball, to name a few. The Wentzell family vehicle was always on the road running the boys and their friends to and from practices and games. Bob also contributed to coaching minor hockey in Lunenburg where Dale was awarded the Hockey Mom of the Year in 1972.

Regrettably, Bob succumbed to cancer in 1993. He would have supported this facility because he knew the importance of a healthy, physically active lifestyle for everybody, young and old, and the importance of the other facilities that the Lifestyle Centre will make possible for the community.

The Wentzell family is very proud to make this contribution in his name.

"Physical activity is very important to our members and the new pool will enable us to expand our growing, year-round swim program.  Our members will also participate in the other programs and activities offered at the Centre.

As a center in the community, it will enable us to connect with other individuals and groups that share common interests and requirements which will benefit us all.

Our club is very pleased to show our support for the LCLC by donating the proceeds from our annual race - the Riverport Duathlon."  Tom Rogers
